Properties published without test methods
Ceramic strength values vary substantially by test method. A number without its method cannot be used in a design calculation.

Firing shrinkage makes as-fired tolerances much wider. Engineers who do not know this produce drawings that cannot be made economically.
Maximum part size not published
It is the cheapest filter available and prevents enquiries that were never feasible.

Questions suppliers ask
Why does tolerance capability need explaining?
Because ceramics shrink during firing, so as-fired tolerances are much wider than machined metal. Engineers new to ceramics routinely specify metal tolerances and then discover the cost. Explaining the distinction openly saves the project and positions you as the expert.
How much property data should be published?
All of the design-relevant properties, with test methods, because engineers are replacing metal and need to calculate. A ceramic that cannot be evaluated against the incumbent material will not be adopted, whatever its advantages.
What convinces an engineer to switch material?
Comparable applications and honest limits. Ceramics are brittle and fail differently from metals, and an engineer needs to know where they will and will not work. A supplier who states the limitations is trusted on the applications where they do work.
