What does a buyer check before evaluating a turbine?
They check output across the operating range rather than at the rated point, the efficiency at the load they will actually run, and the inlet conditions assumed. Then overhaul intervals, because availability over decades is what the investment case rests on.
A project developer is modelling twenty years of generation and needs figures that will survive a lender's technical review.

Scope and specifications
- Turbine type and application
- Steam, gas, hydro and wind are entirely different products.
- Output range
- The capacity band the machine covers.
- Efficiency at rated and part load
- Real operation is rarely at the rated point.
- Inlet or resource conditions assumed
- Performance figures are meaningless without them.
- Operating envelope
- Pressure, temperature or head range the machine tolerates.
- Overhaul interval and expected life
- The basis of the availability model.
- Grid and control interface
- Determines integration effort and compliance.

- The starting point of any evaluation.
- Required output and operating profile
- Determines machine selection.
- Site conditions
- Altitude, ambient temperature and water availability all matter.
- Grid connection requirements
- Compliance obligations follow the market.
- Availability target
- Drives maintenance strategy and spares.
- Project timeline and financing stage
- Tells you whether this is a study or a purchase.
Questions suppliers ask
How much performance data belongs in public?
Enough to model a project: output and efficiency across the range, with reference conditions stated. Developers build models before they contact suppliers, and a machine that cannot be modelled from public data is excluded before the conversation starts.
What does technical due diligence actually look for?
Evidence rather than specification. Type test results, an operating fleet in comparable duty, guarantee terms with real remedies, and a maintenance history. A lender's advisor is assessing whether the projected output is credible, not whether the machine is impressive.
How should long-term support be presented?
With commitments rather than intentions: parts availability period, service coverage, response times and what happens if the model is discontinued. An asset with a multi-decade life is bought partly on the supplier's willingness to be held to something.
