What does a contractor check before buying scaffolding or formwork?

They check the load capacity under a named standard, compatibility with the systems already on site, and whether the components carry test certification. Because this is life-safety equipment, certification and material traceability are not optional extras.

Questions suppliers ask

How should load capacity be published?

As a table by configuration, with the standard named, rather than a single headline figure. Scaffold designers work from configuration tables and site inspectors check against them. A headline number is useless to both and undermines confidence in the rest of the specification.

Does compatibility with other manufacturers matter commercially?

It is often the deciding factor. Contractors buy incrementally and rarely replace a whole yard at once. Stating clearly which systems your components work with, and which they do not, wins the buyers who are expanding and avoids the disputes that come from assumed compatibility.

What certification do buyers actually check?

Load test certification against the system standard, material certificates for the steel, and coating certificates where galvanised. On regulated sites these are checked at delivery, so publishing them in advance shortens acceptance and marks you out from suppliers who cannot.
