What does a buyer check before ordering cable?

They check the conductor size and material, the insulation and sheath, and the voltage rating against a named standard. Then fire performance, which has become the governing requirement in building work and is where cheaper cable usually differs.

Questions suppliers ask

Why has fire classification become the first question?

Because building fire specifications now name cable classifications explicitly, and installations are inspected against them. A cable that cannot be matched to a classification cannot be installed in those buildings, which makes it the first filter rather than a technical footnote.

Should current carrying capacity tables be published?

Yes. They are what an installation designer uses, and having them available makes your cable easy to design in. Manufacturers who publish them get specified at the design stage rather than quoted at the purchasing stage, which is a much better position.

How do we compete against substandard cable on price?

By making the differences checkable: conductor resistance, insulation thickness, the test standard and third-party certification. Undersized conductors are the most common form of substandard cable, and a supplier who explains how to verify it wins the buyers who have been caught.
