Visibility-to-enquiry measurement template
Use this one-row worksheet to connect search or AI visibility with buyer actions and sales evidence, without treating an anonymous visit or click as an enquiry.
- For
- Industrial business owners, commercial leads, and whoever maintains the website or sales records
- Buyer job
- Connect a page or referral to what sales can confirm without guessing who an anonymous visitor was
- Reviewed
- September 13, 2026
Direct answer
Most industrial businesses cannot connect every website visit to a sales result, and that is normal. Use one row per page or referral to record what was observed, what sales confirmed, and what remains unknown. Then give the next check to a named owner. If there is no permissioned lead or outcome record, write "Unknown" and stop there.
Copy one row for each page or resource
Start with the fields below. A blank or unknown answer is more useful than a confident guess because it tells the owner what to connect or check next.

Name the action in words the business uses. Keep the analytics label in brackets so the implementation remains consistent without turning the worksheet into a technical guide.
- Page or product viewed (`view_item` or a governed equivalent): keep the public item ID and page, not confidential RFQ data.
- Decision link followed (`select_content`): record whether the person chose a specification, certificate, comparison, case, or another evidence page.
- Approved file downloaded (`file_download`): record the public document ID and revision when available.
- Enquiry successfully submitted (`generate_lead`): record the form type, source page, product or capability family, and market.
- Enquiry qualified or declined (`qualify_lead` or `disqualify_lead`): the authorized sales owner applies the agreed rule and reason.
- Next action accepted (`working_lead`): a named representative agrees to pursue the enquiry.
- Commercial result reconciled (`close_convert_lead` or `close_unconvert_lead`): the commercial record supplies the result and attribution confidence.

Collect enough context without collecting the buyer's message
Use stable public identifiers and broad categories. Leave the field empty when consent, accuracy, or business need is missing.
- Resource and version: the approved public page or file that generated the event.
- Buyer task: verify a supplier, compare a product, inspect proof, ask a question, request a sample, or submit an RFQ.
- Offering and market: the governed product, capability, application, or service and the intended market when it is known without sensitive inference.
- Source page and referrer class: the canonical page and a broad class such as search, AI referral, direct, marketplace, email, or unknown.
- Evidence type: specification, certificate, project example, facility, process, comparison, calculator, or guide.
- Qualification reason: an approved non-sensitive code such as fit, market, value, timing, feasibility, duplicate, spam, or insufficient information.
- Never send personal details, the enquiry message, confidential drawings, technical files, or a raw observed prompt as analytics fields.
Let each record answer its own question
Website analytics, sales records, public content, and commercial records answer different questions. Keeping those jobs separate makes gaps visible and prevents one hopeful number from becoming a false success story.
What owns a page view or document download?
The analytics event stream, with a stable resource/document identifier and consent policy.
What owns whether an enquiry is qualified?
The approved CRM or typed lead action applied by an authorized human or bounded workflow against explicit criteria.
What owns revenue or order value?
The reconciled commercial system of record. Analytics may receive an approved summary event, but it is not the accounting authority.
What owns a refresh decision?
The resource lifecycle record, which cites technical observations, buyer questions, source changes, and commercial evidence before proposing keep/update/merge/retire.
Use four attribution states without pretending they prove causation
Choose the narrowest state the records support. None of these labels proves that a page caused a sale; they describe the page's documented role in a longer decision.
Direct
The permissioned enquiry or commercial record explicitly names this page or referral as the immediate source.
Assisted
The person used this page during the recorded journey, but another step produced the enquiry or outcome.
Influenced
A named sales or buyer record says the page helped the decision, without establishing a direct or assisted path.
Unknown
The available records do not safely connect the page to the enquiry or outcome. Unknown is a valid result, not a reporting failure.
Reconcile disagreement instead of hiding it
Analytics and sales systems often disagree for ordinary reasons. Keep both readings, name the gap, and give the next check to one owner.
- Check the definitions and time zones before comparing counts.
- Check consent loss, blocked scripts, offline calls or emails, duplicate handling, spam rules, and event failures.
- Preserve the analytics count and the sales count when both are valid but answer different questions.
- Record the reason for the gap as known, suspected, or unknown. Do not silently edit one source to match the other.
- Choose a next decision: keep, update, merge, retire, repair the evidence gap, or wait for a named review date.

Deeper questions this decision reveals
These are kept on the parent page until evidence shows that one is a distinct recurring task deserving its own resource.
Should phone and WhatsApp leads use the same event?
Use channel-specific start events if they help operations, then create one authoritative lead record when contact is received. Preserve the channel and source resource without duplicating the commercial lead.
How should spam be handled?
Keep the original submission event for system diagnostics, classify the lead as spam or disqualified through the authorized business action, and exclude it from qualified-enquiry outcomes without deleting the audit trail.
What should happen when analytics and CRM counts disagree?
Reconcile definitions, time zones, identity/session rules, duplicate handling, consent loss, offline capture, and event failures. Report both sources and the reason; do not silently edit one to match the other.
Can this template prove return on investment?
Not by itself. Return on investment needs permissioned cost and outcome records, an agreed time window, and a reviewed attribution method. When any of those are missing, report the known costs and outcomes separately and keep ROI unknown.
Where can AI help without taking over the decision?
AI can match records, flag missing fields, and prepare a review. A person still approves the qualification rule, corrects mistakes, and decides what the business should do. Unreviewed metrics must not rewrite the policy.
Limits and review note
The example uses Plact's 13 September 2026 release receipt and deliberately leaves buyer, lead, index, and outcome fields unknown. Replace it only with permissioned records from the business's own systems.
- This template is not analytics legal advice, a consent-management design, or a universal CRM schema.
- Do not send sensitive technical files, message bodies, personal data, or confidential RFQ content as analytics parameters.
- A browser event is evidence that code fired, not proof that sales accepted, worked, or converted a lead.
