Why the IT services website sample was withdrawn

We removed the June 2026 component counts because the source set did not represent one comparable group. Keeping those numbers public would make a business decision look more certain than the evidence allowed.

What was wrong with the sample

The cohort mixed IT providers with directories, editorial and social pages, and suppliers from unrelated industries. Comparing their component counts would blur very different visitor jobs and publishing models.

What a useful website benchmark should compare

Businesses serving a similar buyer and commercial decision.
The same type of public page, captured in the same period.
Named eligible sources with an explained inclusion rule.
A reproducible check with its limits made clear.

What to do instead

Start with the buyer question your website must answer, then compare a small set of genuinely similar pages. Treat any pattern as a prompt for review, not proof that it will improve rankings, enquiries or sales.
